brand
KUON
Designer: Shinichiro Ishibashi
After graduating from Bunka Fashion College, he studied under a tailor in Marunouchi, Tokyo, and then worked as a pattern maker for a Paris Collection brand. Since 2014, he has worked as a freelancer, designing and creating patterns for a number of brands. In 2016, he launched his own collection, KUON.
"New things become old, but beautiful things remain beautiful forever"
It comes from the Japanese word "kuon," meaning "distant past or future" or "eternity."
The essence of the brand is to incorporate the history and culture of vintage clothing and fabrics found all over the world, but not to be bound by those frameworks, and to pursue a simple, unadulterated coolness that will not change over time.
Important Notes
The fabric is indigo-dyed pinpoint cross sashiko from Shizuoka Prefecture.
The Enshu region has long been a breeding ground for highly skilled craftsmen, and is still known today as one of Japan's leading cotton textile production areas.
This fabric is made in the Enshu region at a long-established workshop that was founded 150 years ago, and is made in an integrated manner from dyeing the yarn to weaving. The yarn is carefully hand-dyed and then woven to preserve the color and texture of the yarn.
The more you wash it, the more its texture improves, making it a tasteful fabric.
This season, the fabric is woven with thick slub yarn on a dark blue indigo-dyed base thread, and the weft thread is switched between navy blue and white to create a fine cross pattern.
It is a cool fabric that is reminiscent of Japanese summers, and feels comfortable against the skin and changes over time.
Although it is a traditional workwear, it does not feel like a typical Japanese garment; rather, it can be used as a Western garment for everyday wear and make a nice accent piece.
